Intervention
The Department of Invasive Cardiology is dedicated to training the next generation of interventional cardiologists. The unit offers exceptional experience in diagnostic and interventional coronary procedures, structural heart interventions including TAVR, mitral and aortic balloon valvuloplasties, left atrial appendage closure, renal denervation for HT, percutaneous closure of ASD and PFO. We will shortly begin a percutaneus Mitraclip program. The Interventional laboratory has state of the art equipment for IVUS, Pressure Wire studies and rotational atherectomy. The unit performs in excess of 1500 diagnostic coronary angiograms, 800 coronary interventions and 150 structural heart procedures per annum.
Our structural heart intervention program is headed by Dr Ajay Sinhal who performed the first percutaneous implant of the Edwards Sapien aortic valve in Australasia back in November 2008.
We offer a one year interventional cardiology fellowship with the opportunity to be involved in pioneering research.
